The mate is a hollow gourd to drink yerba mate, which is the traditional infusion of the country man. Its custom has remained unaltered through five centuries of history and has extended to very distant places. It is drunk in a circle and for this reason it is a symbol of friendship in Argentina. The mate is passed around and each person finishes the gourd before giving it back to the brewer.
The knife is an essential tool for the country man, so the hardness and the sharpness of the blade are of great importance. The great wealth and variety of designs have made Argentina a country with strong tradition in facones (daggers)  and knives.
Many of them are made with a braided leather handle, which is a popular traditional craft. Each craftsman produces his own drawings and so unique and exclusive designs are obtained.
